It will be hard for a DT or Safety to be drafted in the top 3 due to the fact that the salary would be so much more inflated than if a different position was drafted such as QB or OT. For example, if Eric Berry (Safety from Tennessee) would be drafted #2 overall to the Lions he would immediately become the highest paid Safety in the NFL. Some people could careless as they feel each team should draft the best available player but consider this: What if Berry has an average career during his first contract. Berry will obviously want more money at the conclusion of the contract but he hasn't lived up to a #2 pick nor has he outperformed others at his position so the Lions are now stuck. What do they do? He didn't play as well as Ed Reed. He doesn't deserve 40 million MORE dollars. So in the end, the Lions are forced to deal him away or cut him. No way he plays for less money. This is why the teams in the Top 5 normally draft OT's and QB's.
